The technician will support the project by performing a range of tasks involving both in vitro laboratory work (e.g. histology, imaging, and cell culture) and in vivo animal studies using brain tumour models. The technician will work in close collaboration with the post-doctoral researcher appointed to the same project.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting and supporting a variety of in vivo experiments, including the assessment of brain tumour responses.
  • Performing associated laboratory assays and in vitro analyses.
  • Analysing, interpreting, and accurately documenting experimental data.
  • Providing assistance and training to students working in the laboratory.
  • Maintaining high standards of organisation, attention to detail, and good laboratory practice.

Experience with in vivo brain tumour models will be considered a strong advantage.

Working environment

The University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) offer an excellent working environment for high quality biomedical research. The research technician will be appointed at the Dept. of Radiation Oncology at the UMCG, while working within the section of Molecular Cell Biology at the Dept. of Biomedical Sciences.

This part-time (0.8 FTE) research technician position is supervised by Dr. Lara Barazzuol and is part of an international project, NuCapCure, funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC). Dr. Barazzuol’s research group investigates the side effects of cancer treatments and aims to widen the therapeutic window of proton therapy for brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumours. The team does so by integrating cutting-edge radiotherapy technologies with molecular targeting strategies. The goal is to translate these discoveries into improved clinical applications.

What do we need

We are looking for an excellent, highly motivated research technician with strong laboratory skills and experience in animal handling. Candidates must hold either article 9 or 12/13f permit and should be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. Additional experience with brain tumour models will be considered an advantage.

What do we offer

Your salary will be € 4.041, - scale 7 per month depending on experience and number of FTE. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and a development budget. The duration of the project is 24 months. The initial contract (32 hours a week) will be for 1 year and after positive evaluation this will be extended for 1 additional year. Additionally, the UMCG offers an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus.The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
