We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious, early/mid career Assistant / Associate professor with a proven track record in the field of molecular metabolism, with a focus on metabolic control during stress and ageing.

A tenured position on molecular metabolism in (healthy) ageing.

Working environment

The European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging (ERIBA) is part of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and the University of Groningen (UoG) in Groningen, The Netherlands. Research at ERIBA aims to identify molecular mechanisms of ageing as potential targets to prevent, delay or treat age-related diseases and to promote healthy ageing. Our research teams use different model systems and state-of-the art technology platforms. We work in close collaboration with pre-clinical and clinical departments at the UMCG, and with various local, national and international partners to accelerate translation of our discoveries. ERIBA is located on the Healthy Ageing Campus Groningen where Academia and Life Science companies meet.

We are looking for a candidate who

  • Pursues an independent line of research, using innovative/state of the art research model systems and/or technologies.
  • Has a collaborative spirit and interest to seek synergy with other research groups in ERIBA, UMCG and UoG.
  • Has a proven track record of conducting high quality and creative fundamental research.
  • Has been successful in acquiring external funding.
  • Has an effective (international) network.
  • Is a passionate teacher able to convey his knowledge of the field to new generations of professionals.
  • Is an inspiring leader with the ability to build and coach a research group.

What do we offer

  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience and expertise, based on a full-time appointment as associate/full professor.In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
