What you will do

As a business developer, you explore market opportunities for the research results of researchers at the University of Groningen and the UMCG. Thanks to your experience, you know better than anyone how to assess the market opportunities of a research project and how to guide the researcher in their steps towards the market. Business Development is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Meaning that, depending on the situation, you will work together with a team to create a strong business case for a new start-up or introduce the researcher to the right network where the innovation can be taken further and become of value to society.

Working environment

With their scientific knowledge, researchers are increasingly at the basis of innovations with a societal impact in the fields of health, digitalisation, circularity and the energy transition. Stichting Business Generator Groningen supports these researchers from the University of Groningen (RUG) and the UMCG by translating promising research results into innovations that are very relevant for society. Our team identifies opportunities, supports researchers in building a business case for a new start-up and introduces them to the right network. If an innovation requires it, we also offer support in IP protection and provide information on funding opportunities. In this way, the Business Generator supports researchers in their (often first) steps as entrepreneurs and together we take fundamental research further towards the market and society. Within our team, which is based in Start-up City on the dynamic Campus Groningen, we are looking for a business developer with focus area Life Science/ MedTech.

Your profile

You…

  • Have an academic level of thinking and working
  • Preferably have five years of (commercial and/or academic) experience and a network in the medical sector and/or technology industry
  • Have proven experience with public-private partnerships, IP and licensing agreements
  • Have an eye for promising research in the field of Life Science/MedTech, among others, and the ambition to bring this research successfully to the market
  • Are pro-active, entrepreneurial and client-oriented
  • Act as a natural connector between research and business
  • Get energy from supporting and coaching researchers and start-ups

What we offer you

SBGG offers you a challenging position (0.6 - 1 fte) within a professional and motivated team for an initial period of one year. An extension of your employment contract is possible subject to good performance. A salary, depending on qualifications and work experience. SBGG applies the CAO (collective labour
agreement) of the UMC with a working week of 36 hours. This ensures 21 days of holiday per year (based on a full-time working week), a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and favourable pension conditions. And most importantly, due to the character of your work, you are involved in all sorts of smart innovations that help society move forward, you get the chance to develop yourself at a phenomenal rate and strengthen your network.
